Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine has already departed from Trinidad this afternoon after meeting with Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and members of her Cabinet.

Caine arrived in Trinidad on an official US aircraft this morning at the Piarco International airport, and met with Persad-Bissessar at the diplomatic centre in St Ann’s.
Present at the meeting were Minister of Public Utilities Barry Padarath, Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander, Minister of Defence Wayne Sturge, and Attorney General John Jeremie. Details of what was discussed in the meeting have not yet been disclosed to the public.
Caine however departed Trinidad shortly before 2.p.m. on the aircraft believed to be bound for Puerto Rico.
Caine and Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Joint Chiefs of Staff David Isom had visited members of the US 346th Air Expeditionary Wing and Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 225, prior to the visit. He also visited the Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS Lake Erie (CG 70).
The Joint Staff posted that Caine met with sailors underway in the Caribbean sea and thanked them for their professionalism and “continued, outstanding service during the Thanksgiving holiday season.”
He also received updates from leadership and toured key spaces to gain a firsthand understanding of what the crew is accomplishing while underway.
The US Embassy in Port of Spain yesterday stated that Persad-Bissessar and Gen. Caine were expected discuss the two nations’ “strong bi-lateral relationship, strengthening regional stability, and regional unity on the vital importance of countering illicit trafficking and transnational criminal organizations.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar also yesterday acknowledged the visit. Stating that the meeting came at the request of the US government, and that details would be shared with the media after it occurred,
Yesterday the New York Times reported on Caine’s visit to the region, stating that the reason for the trip was to thank US troops ahead of Thanksgiving. The Times reported that Caine has been a major part of the Operation Southern Spear, under which the US’ deployment of numerous warships, at least 15,000 troops and the USS Gerald R Ford aircraft carrier in Caribbean waters, has been named.
The US has claimed that this build up and the 21 lethal boat strikes carried out in the region by the US military which have thus far killed 82 are part of an effort to stymie the flow of drugs in the region, and its effect on American citizens.
But his visit comes as pressure on neighbouring Venezuela mounts, and on the heels of the conclusion of Joint exercises between the US 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit and the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (TTDF) last week.

ANGOSTURA continues to explore opportunities to enhance its global brand as it has launched a bold campaign in New York, celebrating the company’s iconic bitters and world-renowned rums.
Designed to increase brand awareness, the comprehensive campaign is being rolled out throughout November.
This includes major large format placements on a billboard, digital kiosks and hand-painted wall in Williamsburg and Lower Manhattan. These areas were chosen for their strong cocktail culture and proximity to high-foot-traffic areas, on-premises accounts, and public transit.
In August, Angostura rums and bitters took centre stage in Times Square, New York City, one of the most iconic advertising locations, as its products lit up in a 15-second advertisement running in a continuous loop.
The current campaign in New York focuses on Angostura bitters range and marks a significant step in the company’s accelerated growth strategy within its largest international markets.
The New York City campaign is being driven by an Angostura bitters-led theme, “Inspiring Cocktail Creativity”, to elevate everyday drinks into crafted cocktails. The US is Angostura’s largest international market, and the company is expanding its footprint throughout the country.
Angostura advertises on a digital board in New York.. -
Angostura’s acting CEO Ian Forbes said, “This campaign represents an important time for the Angostura brand in the US as our goal is to deepen visibility, strengthen relevance with our consumers, and highlight how Angostura bitters transform mixology – whether at home or behind the bar.”
"By amplifying our presence in New York, Angostura is reinforcing its international expansion. The company will continue to pursue high-impact opportunities across global markets, ensuring its iconic bitters and rums remain essential to cocktail and culinary cultures worldwide. Our products are available in over 170 markets."
Angostura commercial manager Leesha Alexander recently spoke to TV6 about expanding the company's footprint.
"We've been able to show up in a grander scale outside of TT as well," she said.
She said the company has featured its products in Greece, UK and New York.
"We are also waving that flag for Angostura and TT, just really focusing on innovation – very important part to our strategy."
She said an Angostura brand ambassador recently visited Easter Island, a remote volcanic island, renowned for its archeological sites, in Chile.
"Even though we don't have a direct trade with Easter Island, the product is available at the bars out there. We continue to promote the distribution of our products We are at most major markets where the product is allowed."
Forbes said bitters has blazed a trail and opened markets for Angostura's premium rums.
"Our premium rums are in approximately 60 countries around the world, and there is the opportunity now to follow the part blazed by Angostura (bitters)..It's a tag-team arrangement where Angostura opens the markets for our premium rums to follow."

The Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government (MoRDLG) is urging citizens to remain on high alert as the Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) remains in effect for Trinidad and Tobago following a full day of inclement weather on Tuesday, November 25, which resulted in localized flooding and rapidly rising river levels in several communities.
The alert, issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), remains in effect until 9:00 p.m. today.
Although weather conditions showed some improvement in parts of the country earlier in the day, the Ministry warned that runoff from sustained rainfall has significantly increased water levels along the Caroni River, with levels expected to approach critical thresholds. Authorities cautioned that brief, localized overspill remains possible, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas of the lower Caroni Basin.
Smaller watercourses and drains may also become overwhelmed during periods of heavy rainfall, particularly near the time of high tide at approximately 7:03 p.m.
The Ministry confirmed that localized street and residential flooding occurred in areas within the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation (PDRC) and the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation (SGRC). These incidents were described as short-term, and water levels have since begun to subside. At this time, there has been no significant or widespread impact reported.
Additional incidents recorded throughout the day included:
A fallen tree along the North Coast Road, Maracas Bay within the San Juan/Laventille Regional Corporation
A fallen utility pole along Siparia Old Road in the Siparia Borough Corporation
In both cases, Disaster Management Unit (DMU) teams and relevant response agencies were swiftly deployed, and the affected roadways have since been **cleared and are now fully

WEST INDIES batsmen got stuck in on day one of their two-day warm-up match against a New Zealand XI at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln University, on November 25, as the visitors closed on 346 for five at stumps.
With the match serving as vital preparation for West Indies ahead of their three-match Test series against the Kiwis, which bowls off on December 1, the top order showed good form after the regional team won the toss. Tagenarine Chanderpaul (85 off 211 balls), Brandon King (79 off 91), John Campbell (68 off 98) and Kavem Hodge (55 not out off 102) all scored fifties in a strong batting display.
Campbell and Chanderpaul set the tone in their 130-run opening partnership, with the former being the aggressor as he struck nine fours and a six before being caught at mid-off from the bowling of left-arm pacer Thomas O'Connor (one for 31). King then showed his intent early with a couple of stylish cover drives to the boundary, and he and Chanderpaul took the regional team to Tea without further loss as the score moved to 207.
Chanderpaul struck five fours and two sixes in his innings, which was retired at the Tea interval as he made way for Hodge, who's hoping to suit up in his first Test since the tour of Pakistan in January. After scoring 12 boundaries in a breezy innings, King was the next man to be dismissed when he was caught and bowled by leg-spinner Rahman Hekmat (one for 84) as the Windies slipped to 251 for three. Middle-order batsman Alick Athanaze didn't stick around for long and made a cameo of 23 off 34 balls before he was dismissed by Toby Hart (one for 28).
Hodge and wicket-keeper/batsman Tevin Imlach (25 off 46) then added 68 runs for the fifth wicket before the latter was bowled by left-arm spinner Jayden Lennox with what turned out to be the final ball of the day's play as he went for an extravagant cover drive.

Victim of home invasion pleads for stand-your-ground laws

A senior citizen, who was a victim of a home invasion on Monday, says he is disappointed that the promised stand-your-ground legislation has not yet been enforced.
The resident of Central Trinidad is pleading with lawmakers to put security measures in place before the Christmas season, when there is usually a spike in violent crimes.
Speaking to the Express at his Ravine Sable, Longdenville, home yesterday, the 61-year-old owner of a transport company said he believed the implementation of stand-your-ground legislation would protect law-abiding citizens.
The homeowner said he and his wife were at home when four masked men entered around 7.15 p.m. when they were watching the news on television.
He said the men, one armed with a gun, pulled into his driveway in a white-coloured MG sport utility vehicle.
“I heard the horn blow and I walk out to see who it is, when I see some men jumping out a car. One point a gun at me and tell me to walk back inside the room,” he recalled, adding, the men shouted “where the money” and ransacked the house.
“I had some money in the room, about $2,900, and I gave that to them—but they say that is not all the money, and they want the money,” he continued.
Three of the men, he said, left the one-bedroom apartment, and went to the main house, where they broke a window, entered the property and ransacked the house.
His son, who lives in the main house, was not at home at the time of the incident, he said.
The intruders found $60,000, jewelry, cellphones, a battery charger, a cordless drill, and $2,000 in alcohol.
Asked why the large sum of money was kept at home, he said his son had recently collected four hands of sou-sou and he had sold an engine from a truck.
He believed the incident was not a random attack. “I believe it was a tip-off. The boy in the room with my wife and I told us that somebody sent them here, and if they ent get what they send them here for, the person who send them will have to pay the consequences,” he said.
As a resident of Ravine Sable for 33 years, he said this was the first time he was a victim of crime.
“I don’t feel safe here now. Every day something happening in this country. When it hit home, that’s when you realise what people going through. I never thought this would happen in my wildest dreams,” he added.
